Temp-to-perm is the control route when demand is uncertain

When demand is uncertain, employers often make one of two mistakes. They either freeze hiring completely, or they commit too early to permanent cost.

Both can hurt the business.

A hiring freeze can leave existing teams overloaded, customers waiting and operations under-supported. Permanent hiring too early can add cost before the role, margin or workload is proven. The better answer in many cases is temp-to-perm.

Temp-to-perm gives employers a practical middle route. It allows the business to bring people in, test the role, protect delivery, check fit, understand workload and avoid making a permanent decision before the evidence exists.

For manufacturers, warehouses, logistics firms and office teams, this can be especially useful where demand is moving, seasonal pressure is building, admin work is increasing or a permanent vacancy needs cover while the business decides what the role should become.

The key is to do it properly. Temp-to-perm should not be an informal trial with vague terms. It should have a clear role brief, agreed hours, pay route, assignment details, right-to-work evidence, manager feedback process and decision point.

Practical checks

  • Is demand proven enough for permanent headcount?
  • Would temporary cover protect the business while the decision is made?
  • Could temp-to-perm reduce recruitment risk?
  • Is the role brief clear enough to attract the right person?
  • Is the payroll and assignment route properly documented?
  • When will the permanent decision be made?

V3 Recruitment can help employers use temp-to-perm properly across manufacturing, warehouse, logistics, commercial and office roles.

If you are stuck between “do nothing” and “hire permanently”, call V3 and ask whether temp-to-perm is the safer route. Speak to V3 on 02392 361 115 or hello@v3recruitment.com.
